Millennial Stereotypes
What stereotypes do people categorize you in, and what effect do they have on you as a person? The video below from CBS Sunday Morning details the emotions Millennials to face with day-to-day stereotypes. As mentioned on CBS Sunday Morning, one of the stereotypes was “All millennials are lazy.” One of the guests, Corvette James, replied, “I don't think so...I work a full-time job, then I come home and run a business.” Surprisingly enough, one of the stereotypes of millennials is that they are entitled. Still, that sense of entitlement comes from the millennial generation having more knowledge about technology and social media platforms. That said, millennials feel that since they know more about how to use technology, they should be compensated for that. As a prediction, the next generation coming up by millennials will be far more advanced with technology since most, if not all, of Generation X practically grew up with technology. I think that Generation X will be one of the first generations to be burnt out in jobs and thus lead to having multiple positions during their lifetime. Not to mention, I think that due to the highly innovative Millennial generation, Generation X will follow suit. Further, one of the other questions asked during the interview was, “How many of you live with or depend on your parents?” Corvette James replied, “I live with my parents; I don’t depend on them.” Further, I have reason to believe that with stable housing prices growing exponentially and wages still at an all-time low, many millennials and even the generation after Generation X will find themselves living with their parents during their 20s. With everyday goods increasing due to inflation, I believe that all generations will be cutting back on everything. Further, after examining CBS Sunday Morning discussing Millennial stereotypes, I think it brings forth more future examination to see how we can eliminate stereotypes as a whole.
