All the Craze with Netflix’s Wednesday

Unless you live under a rock, it is presumable to state that you have probably heard, watched, or talked about Netflix’s Wednesday, or if you are anything like me, then all of the three. Netflix took the internet by storm with its most recent comedy show, Wednesday, released November 23, 2022. Once people watched the show, TikTok was filled with the infamous dance of Wednesday, with many TikTok users tagging along and recreating the dance. Variety magazine stated that Wednesday “More than 50 million households have seen “Wednesday” since it premiered just under a week ago”(Bell). Variety even went as far to say that more people streamed Wednesday than Stranger Things. Variety alludes to the fact that “According to Netflix’s data, “Wednesday” is the new record holder for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language TV series on Netflix. “Stranger Things” Season 4 previously held the record with 335.01 million hours viewed, which was counted during the week of May 30 – June 5”(Bell). More so, as noted above, it goes without saying that Wednesday has once again, along with many Adam’s Family spinoffs, reached the top charts on Netflix. Netflix’s Wednesday does so well because Wednesday modernizes The Adam’s Family, showing that the acting really is just the icing on the cake. More so, the most loved character on the show is Jenna Ortega, who sincerely gives the character Wednesday justice. Ortega is able to really pull into character by only moving her eyebrows and keeping the rest of her face ‘flat’ or emotionless. I believe that if Jenna Ortega did not play Wednesday, we would be seeing different ratings on Netlix’s Wednesday. Furthermore, Netflix’s Wednesday is all the trend in social media due to trendy dances that later become TikTok trends, excellent acting, and overall successful plot development.
